Matthew McDaniel

Registered Psychologist offering in-person appointments in Vancouver and online appointments throughout British Columbia.

Before beginning work as a therapist, I spent time as a Community Mental Health Worker within Vancouver’s Downtown East-Side. Through this work I learned to connect with people in a variety of contexts, with a range of challenges and problems. I have an integrated and eclectic approach to psychological services: everyone is unique, and everyone needs their own personal approach to the challenges in their lives. I am a firm believer in meeting you where you are, seeing life through your eyes, and collaborating on how to best move forward and thrive.

With 20 years of experience and education offering community and individual support, I can offer expertise in several therapeutic approaches, including Emotion Focused (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Experiencing, Narrative, Cognitive Behavioural (CBT), Mindfulness, Existential, Motivational Interviewing, and Group-based support.

I am a Registered Psychologist (2884) with the College of Health and Care Professions of British Columbia.

I hold a PhD in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia with a research focus on the support of front line and first responder populations through the fentanyl overdose crisis.
